Overview of Raga Yaman

Raga Yaman (also known as Kalyan) is one of the most fundamental and popular ragas in Hindustani Classical Music. It belongs to the Kalyan Thaat. It is traditionally the first raga taught to students because of its melodious nature and scope for improvisation.

The most distinct feature of Raga Yaman is the use of Teevra Madhyam (Ma). All other notes used in this raga are Shuddha (Natural). It creates a serene and romantic mood.
