- Angas: The limbs of a tala. The three main angas used in Sapta Talas are Laghu (l), Drutam (0), and Anudrutam (U).
- Laghu (l): A beat followed by finger counts. Its duration depends on the Jati (3, 4, 5, 7, or 9 aksharas).
- Drutam (0): A beat followed by a wave (visarjitam). It always has 2 aksharas.
